Back in February of 2004, I walked the stage with my 1st degree but never thought I’d be this close to obtaining my 2nd degree in a totally different career path. Every semester we get the chance to met a few new people but I can honestly say that some of my classmates this semester made a pretty cool impression on me.
I met an army vet that was 1 Spanish class away from graduating but unfortunately he didn’t make the cut. I met a mother of 4 that had to deal with her mother being hospitalized and another mother of 6 whose husband had a career ending injury shortly after midterms but they just kept moving forward. When I saw what these people went through with little to no complaining … I actually told myself, “You got this, you better not complain and I will accept nothing less than a 3.0 this semester.”
With less than 30 hours to go … I’ve got this weird extra hop in my step. I am excited and nervous at the same time but I just can’t wait. Since I was in the 3rd grade, I dreamed of going to the University of Texas in Austin but in about a year I’ll be graduating from the University of Texas in Arlington.
I know it’s not the same thing but it’s close enough to me.
Congratulations to all walking seniors!!!
